Decision Making Matrix Most organizations have various kinds of decisions, which are made in a variety of different ways. Even if a group says it runs by “consensus”, there are probably some simple types of decisions that certain people are authorized to make alone. One way to avoid confusion and miscommunication about how different decisions are made is by making a decision making matrix that clearly outlines who has input into different types of decisions, who makes the decision, who reviews it, who implements it, and who is informed of the new decision. While it may take a bit of time up front to develop such a matrix, once developed it can save much time misunderstanding and confusion. An example of what a decision-making matrix for a library might look is seen below.
