A Spirit of Inquiry

Facilitators see the world through their own lenses, which can lead them to make assumptions that do not serve the group. A spirit of inquiry and curiosity are the best defense against assumptions. A curious facilitator will wonder out loud. She is committed to listening and helping to decipher what is happening rather than stating her own opinions or feelings about a topic.

Furthermore, when inquiring into what is happening in a group the facilitator keeps the responsibility for the solutions in the group. While there are many “tools” that facilitators can use, if they are not curious they will not be inclined to use their tools well.
